Cotehardie, or: How I am making the new, old hotness

September 28th, 2009 by Ben Leave a reply »

Took the in-progress garb to 4th Sunday to show off what I did so far and determine next steps. I’m really digging the blue linen and can’t wait to do more colors. I will be a garb rainbow… :)

Making lots of cloth buttons is in my immediate future and I think I’ll need to find a good tv show to watch or have someone over for some sewing goodness or both. The thought of casting my own metal buttons is enticing tho.

Baby steps first. Tedious, cloth baby steps. And bias tape; my nemesis once again.

Can’t wait to see how this turns out.

Definitely… I think you’ll like it as well!

See, now, I need to get you or someone to teach me how to do the cloth buttons. The metal ones I’ve bought are expensive, and I don’t much care for the lacings even if they are fast.

I do have a cool (if slim) book on medieval buttons I’ll have to show you sometime — and soon — very soon — like Monday — I will be the proud owner of a garage for just that sort of dirty/flammable work :-)

Ah yes, Thjora gave me some instruction on how to do the buttons at 4th Sunday and it seems like something very good to sit and talk to other people while making them. :)
