Hood

November 2nd, 2009

There’s no picture to go with this since it’s late, my phone is on the charger and, well, I didn’t feel like it right now… :)

I still can’t find the buttonhole foot so I decided that I would do a bit of fabric manipulation. Thus I made up a nice grey/gray linen hood for my noggin. I fit it on and it was pretty comfy. It’s slightly snug when going over my nose, but that moment is short and it comes off well enough. I can easily push it backward off my head to get a sunburn when I so desire and it rumples nicely on my shoulders. Overall, a win for garb this time. It was also very easy and took very little fabric. I may make another one of a slightly different design to entertain myself.

In other news, I cut out fabric pieces for a new cotehardie. Yes, the first isn’t done and I’m already starting another one. It’s going to be 2 colors and full of win. Yeah, I ordered the fabric with extra win in it. Surprisingly, the same price…

Missing pieces

October 27th, 2009

My singer is all threaded, bobbin is full and cotehardie is marked for buttonholes. I just need to put on the correct foot and… Where is the button foot? Nowhere that it should be. Sigh. Guess I won’t be doing that tonight. Instead I’ll be organizing/searching for a part so I can do this later.

So close, yet so far away.

And, no, it can’t be done by hand. Nope. Not possible…

Bedtime Stories

October 6th, 2009

Making buttons is a good way to get ready for bed. Calms down the day. And so productive…

Cotehardie at 90% completion

October 1st, 2009

Ok, so the completion amount is mostly arbitrary. I need to do buttons and button-holes, but that’s it (I think) and it’s mostly just busy-work sort of a thing that I’ll do while watching movies from netflix or whatever.

A few pics with the first button made pinned in place and a quarter to show scale. I’m not sure if that’s where the button is supposed to be, but it looked about right.

And a bit further back:

Been really happy with how this garb has gone together and I’m already thinking about the next one. I’d like to do a dual-color thing but need to check on the accuracy of that scheme historically.

On the Bias

September 29th, 2009

Went to the doc about this pestersome cough I’ve had for a week and took the day off. The cough isn’t an infection and should be gone soon. Seems to be the leftovers from a cold mixed with a liitle fall allergy action.

With the time outside of my napping (it’s part of the recovery!), I made a bunch of bias tape and am try to finish the Cotehardie of Blue. Yeah. 114″ of bias tape. Guess I get to really practice my handsewing now. At least I have netflix streaming to accompany my quest.

Cotehardie, or: How I am making the new, old hotness

September 28th, 2009

Took the in-progress garb to 4th Sunday to show off what I did so far and determine next steps. I’m really digging the blue linen and can’t wait to do more colors. I will be a garb rainbow… :)

Making lots of cloth buttons is in my immediate future and I think I’ll need to find a good tv show to watch or have someone over for some sewing goodness or both. The thought of casting my own metal buttons is enticing tho.

Baby steps first. Tedious, cloth baby steps. And bias tape; my nemesis once again.
