It seemed this weekend that Mu was significantly bigger than just a short while ago so I weighed him on the kitchen scale. No, not directly. I used an amazon box. Very scientific. He’s gone from 3# 12oz. to 4# 5oz. in just under a week. I’m not really sure if that’s normal, but it’s interesting how my little buddy is growing.

Ralph gained 2oz. from Friday, and I’m glad he’s getting better. His slower gain is really highlighted against Mu, but the month difference in them also plays a part as well.

I made spreadsheets for tracking their medical records. Yeah, nerds and cats are a good way to cause explosions in inate data.

I’ll have charts though. Super awesome charts. With colors.

Maybe I’ll work in unicorns too.

Not his usual playful self, I called the vet today and have an appointment at 3:30 to see if there’s something I can do to help him feel better. He’s kind of a sad little kitty right now and I hope we can get him back to the kitten he was a few days ago. Such a sad little meow as he follows me around.

The cats have gotten some slight respiratory thing as well though and I’ve been lucky enough for Mu to sneeze directly in my face several times. Ralph has a cough sort of thing going on as well. The vet doesn’t seem to be concerned since they are both eating well and very active (very very active in fact).

The kittens are doing well. They’re getting much more comfy with the apartment in general and continue to be friendly to me and the roommate. I finally named them over the weekend and ended up with Mu (µ) for the black & white shorthair. The orange tiger medium hair is now Ralph.

Mu is fairly independant, playing by himself a lot of the time or just sitting and watching people/Ralph do their things. He’s cuddly when he wants to be though, and can be quite the bitey one when he’s been petted and tries to show some affection. That or he just wants to bite a lot… either way.

Ralph, on the other hand, is quite different. He’s a few weeks younger and is very much the attention-whore of the group. He wants to play a lot with Mu but will also come jump up on your lap and snuggle down for some petting at many points of the day. He likes to follow me around when I’m doing things that don’t involve him and tends to get caught in my feet. He’ll watch me making dinner or playing a game and mew to get attention. He doesn’t so much do the biting when getting people-love but I swear his tongue doesn’t fit in his mouth. He will lick you if he can. Your arm, hand, finger, face, jeans, shirt, the couch, Mu, etc. The boy needs to be cleaning/tasting something at all points.

They get along well though and have entertained me immensely by watching them play or enjoying them try to get higher on my chest to lay and receive my attention when I’m watching tv at night. Overall they have made my days happier and it’s nice to think that we’ll be buddies (no, they are not my kids nor am I their daddy; just friends) for the years to come. Good stuff!

Ok, the livingroom/kitchen/etc is 98% clean. I need to take a few more things to the storage unit and put a couple things away in sewing containers or electronics containers but the counters got a long-overdue scrubbing, the dishwasher is packed to epic levels and the roomba should do well tomorrow after we leave for work. Tomorrow night will be laundry folding and bathroom detox but overall very productive.

The apartment is nearly ready for a kitten. I think. Not having ever really had indoor pets, this will be very new for me. For instance, are the litterbox pads to catch fleeing litter actually worth the $15 they cost at PetSmart? Really. Can’t I just buy a $5 doormat at Target and make 10 litterbox mats? Do they possess litter-retaining magics of which I am not aware? I didn’t see that on the packaging. Perhaps cutting doormats releases deadly cat toxins that will ruin the apartment. I find that hard to believe for an American-made stamped rubber. Although…

I think I finally decided on a name though. Will try it on the cat for a few days after I get him. Looks like Thursday after work but could potentially be Friday depending on schedule and such. It’s exciting.

Also, does anyone want some pints of home-canned green beans?
